Ty’n y Wern Primary is a group two County Primary School situated at the southern end of the County Borough of Caerphilly. It serves a catchment area of privately owned and rented houses in a very supportive community. The catchment area includes the village of Trethomas and the Lower Graig y Rhacca Estate, which lies to the east of the village. The school has a part-time, morning nursery class, three infant classes, five junior classes and two specialist resource base (SRB)classes. Places in the SRB Nurture and Social Inclusion classes are allocated through a termly placement panel and are for children living in the Caerphilly Basin. There are currently 269 children on roll (including Nursery and SRB classes).
